No, Ranitas is not an antacid. It belongs to the group of medicine called H2- receptor blocker which blocks excess acid secretion in the stomach while antacid only neutralizes the stomach acid by coating the stomach.

Can taking Ranitas cause pneumonia?

Taking [medicine] does not directly cause pneumonia. However, in some cases [medicine] may increase the chances of bacteria to grow inside the gut causing bacterial infections such as pneumonia. The bacterial growth in the gut can be caused due to decreased acid secretion in the stomach which allow growth of bacteria in the gut which can move into the lungs through breathing. Please consult your doctor if you are experiencing fever, breathing difficulties and nonstop coughing for more than 2 weeks.

Why Ranitas is given along with vitamine B 12?

suppress is because a long-term use of Ranitas can cause Vitamin B12 deficiency. Stomach acids help in the absorption of Vitamin B 12, and this drug suppresses stomach acid which is required for the absorption of vitamin B12. Hence patients taking [medicine] for a long time have Vitamin B12 deficiency. To replenish Vitamin B12 in your body your doctor prescribes this vitamin along with this medicine.
