Yes, Dilcal can cause edema (swelling). It is the most common side effects of this drug. Usually swelling occurs in face, eyes, lips, tongue, hands, arms, feet and ankle. If these effects cause troublesome, then consult your doctor regarding whether this effect arises due to diltiazem consumption or not. If yes, then you can stop taking this medicine with the help of doctor because of alternate treatment are also available. However, it is dose-related effects if taken a low dose, chances of edema (swelling) are very less if consuming high dose the chances of edema (swelling) are high.
Dilcal comes in the form of a tablet and ideally, it should be taken by mouth thrice daily or as advised by your doctor. It can be taken with or without food at any time of the day. Precautions must be taken in patients with liver disease, diabetes, and kidney problem.
Discontinuation of Dilcal on your own can cause unwanted side effects. You are recommended to always consult a doctor before discontinuing this medicine.
