Having facial hair is, of course, normal. Hormones such as androgens and testosterone are responsible for this hair growth in both men and women. In males, the levels of androgen are typically higher than in females, which is why men usually have more hair on their faces than women. However, there are some medical conditions such as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, Cushing’s disease and hypertrichosis, in which women may also have more hair growth on their faces and bodies.

Some people are not bothered by the hair present on their face while others may get concerned about it. They can opt for one of various available hair removal treatments, such as facial waxing, shaving and threading, to get rid of the hair. Alternatively, they can lighten the hair by bleaching it.

Bleaching with a specially formulated face bleach makes the hair less visible. However, if you have run out of bleach or have an allergy to some of the chemicals present in commercial face bleach, there are some home remedies that can help to achieve similar results with all-natural products. Here are five such home remedies that do not involve any chemical and yet will lighten the hair on your skin.

  1. Papaya and milk to bleach facial hair
  2. Oats and banana for bleaching facial hair
  3. Bleach with turmeric and lemon
  4. Tomatoes can bleach facial hair
  5. Use besan and curd for bleaching your face

Papaya contains papain, which is an enzyme that has depilatory effects (ability to remove hair). Papaya also has vitamin A and vitamin C which help to lighten the pigments in the skin. The lactic acid present in milk helps in bleaching the skin while moisturising it simultaneously.

What you will need:

  • 3 tablespoons mashed papaya
  • 1 tablespoon milk

How to use it:

  • Combine the ingredients to make a consistent paste.
  • Apply the paste on your face and neck and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Before washing your face with water, massage it with your fingertips in a circular motion.
  • Wash your face with cold water.
  • You can use this remedy twice a week.

Oats have essential amino acids and vitamin B1 which gives it antioxidant properties. This helps to boost blood circulation and give a bleaching effect to the skin. Bananas have vitamin A, vitamin B and vitamin E which help in lightening the skin.

What you will need:

  • 2 tablespoons oats
  • 1/2 mashed banana

How to use it:

  • Mix the ingredients together and make a consistent paste.
  • Apply that paste on your face and scrub in a circular motion for 1 minute. Be gentle while scrubbing.
  • Let the paste stay on your face for the next 5 minutes.
  • Wash your face with cold water.
  • You can do this remedy twice a week.

Turmeric is used in various sunscreens as it protects the skin from inflammation and keeps the skin tone even. In India, turmeric is also used to remove superfluous hair. You can mix lemon juice with the turmeric as lemon contains vitamin C which acts as a bleaching agent.

What you will need:

  • 1 tablespoon turmeric powder
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

How to use it:

  • Mix the turmeric powder and lemon juice together. Make sure that the paste is not too thick and not too flowy.
  • Apply the paste on your face and leave it on for 15 minutes.
  • Rinse your face thoroughly with room-temperature water.
  • You can repeat this remedy two times a week.

Tomatoes are rich in antioxidants and vitamin C, thus they act as a bleaching agent on the skin. They also provide instant glow to the skin as they are helpful in removing dead skin cells.

What you will need:

  • 1 tomato
  • 1 cotton ball (optional)

How to use it:

  • You can cut the tomato into four pieces and rub it all over your face nicely so that the tomato juice covers all the surfaces of your face.
  • You can also blend the tomato in a blender and then apply the tomato juice on your face with the help of a cotton ball.
  • Keep the fresh tomato juice on your face for 15 minutes and then rinse your face with cold water.
  • You can repeat this remedy twice a week.

Chickpea flour, also known as besan, is one of the most common skin remedies used in many Indian households. Besan has exfoliating properties and can remove dead skin from the face. Curd contains lactic acid which helps in bleaching the skin.

  • 2 tablespoons chickpea flour
  • 1 teaspoon curd

How to use it:

  • Mix the ingredients together and make a thick paste.
  • Apply the paste on your face and keep it on for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Wash your face with cold water and pat dry.
