Doctors for The Uric Acid Diet: What You Should Eat and What You Shouldn't

You can get help to normalize uric acid levels through diet. Many foods are high in purines (a chemical found in food that causes gout), purines are naturally found in foods. When your body digests purines, uric acid is formed in your body as waste. However, uric acid is not a matter of concern for healthy people, because healthy people easily excrete uric acid as waste. But people who suffer from gout are not able to excrete uric acid completely. Therefore, a diet high in purines leads to accumulation of uric acid and increases the risk of gout attack. Therefore, foods high in purines should not be eaten.

Certain types of meat (particularly organs like liver, veggies, etc.), seafood, alcohol and beer are high in purines. However, according to a study, vegetables high in purines do not increase uric acid. Apart from this, fructose (natural sugar in fruits) and sugary beverages also increase uric acid, whereas these foods do not contain purines. In a study, 125,000 participants were fed fructose. After this, a 62% risk of uric acid was seen in these people.

Apart from this, another research also showed that low-fat dairy products, soy products and vitamin C supplements reduce blood uric acid levels, which reduces uric acid levels. But keep in mind that high-fat dairy products increase uric acid.
