Mutax contains cefotaxime which belongs to the class of drugs known as cephalosporins. It is a broad spectrum antibiotic which covers a wide range of bacteria which are generally found to be resistant to penicillin.
Mutax is a broad-spectrum antibiotic which is active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It works by preventing the cell wall synthesis in bacteria by binding to specific proteins (penicillin-binding proteins). The cell wall protects the bacteria from the environment, in the absence of this cell wall, the bacteria becomes vulnerable and dies. Mutax is effective against a wide range of both gram negative and gram positive bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenza, Staphylococcus aureus, and Staphylococcus pneumonia.
Yes, Mutax covers anaerobes. It is effective against some of the anaerobic bacteria such as Bacteroides spp, Clostridium spp, Fusobacterium spp, Peptococcus spp, and Peptostreptococcus spp.
