How to take Actamid?

Ideally, Actamid can be taken by mouth once or twice daily depends on the severity of symptoms or as advised by your doctor. It can be taken with or without food because food does not affect the absorption of this drug. The usual recommended dose for the treatment of glaucoma is 250 mg every 4 hours. In some urgent cases, an initial dose of 500 mg followed by 125 mg or 250 mg every 4 hours may be used.

Actamid is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor. It works in glaucoma by decreasing the secretion of aqueous humor (Eye fluid), thereby lowering the increased eye pressure. It also acts on the kidneys to remove extra water and electrolytes through urine to relieve from edema (swelling) and fluid retention. It also helps in epilepsy (seizures) by stabilizing electrical activity in the brain.
