Skican is a brand name of fluconazole. It is a prescription drug that belongs to the class of antifungal medications. It is used to treat fungal infections such as vaginal candidiasis (yeast infection of the vagina), oral thrush etc.
Rarely, Skican can cause irregular periods. However, if you're experiencing conditions such as leucorrhoea (whitish or yellowish vaginal discharge), menorrhagia (abnormally heavy bleeding at menstruation) and dysmenorrhea (Painful periods) after taking this medication. No, Skican is not an antibacterial drug. It is an antifungal drug and used to treat specific fungal infections only.
Skican inhibit the fungal cytochrome P450 enzyme lanosterol 14- demethylase and thus block ergosterol synthesis leading to membrane abnormalities in the fungus. It kills the fungus by destroying its cell membrane.
Occasionally, Skican causes constipation when it is taken orally, while the interavenous administration of the medication does not cause constipation or other stomach related issues.
