How does Nidanol work?

Dr. Anand Singh MBBS , General Physician

Nidanol contains hydroxyprogesterone which is a synthetic form of the naturally occurring female sex hormone (progesterone). It is presumed that hydroxyprogesterone decreases the proinflammatory response through its anti-inflammatory effect that occurs at the initiation of labour. It also assists in stabilizing the levels of progesterone in the middle layer of the uterine wall (myometrium) and regulating the female reproductive system. This helps in maintaining pregnancy and lowering the risk of premature labour.
