Prakash has worked in the past include Manipal Northside Hospital, Malleshwaram, Manipal Hospital, HAL Airport Road. Besides being affiliated with many hospitals, he has been professionally active in other important ways. He has been a member of President of Nephrology Association of Karnataka. He graduated with a MBBS from JJM Medical College, Davangere. Thereafter, Dr. G. K. Prakash earned MD - General Medicine from Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute, Bangalore and DNB from Apollo Hospitals, Chennai.
