No, Zonim is not banned for use in adults and elderly patients by CDSCO. However, CDSCO has banned Zonim for children below 12 years age as it can cause hepatic failure (liver failure).
Ideally Zonim is not prescribed by a doctor for a toothache. However, in the absence of painkillers such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen, naproxen etc, nimesulide can be taken to get instant relief from tooth pain. Generally, for treating toothache arising due to dental cavities and dental procedures ibuprofen along with antibiotics are recommended by dentists to reduce swelling and pain.
Discontinuation of Zonim on your own can cause unwanted side effects. You are recommended to always consult a doctor before discontinuing this medicine.
Zonim should not be taken when a person has been detected with dengue. This is because nimesulide may cause internal bleeding which can be fatal during dengue. To bring down fever in dengue patients, paracetamol can be given along with plenty of fluids such as soups, juices, and water.
