Diclonice is a brand name of nimesulide. It is a prescription drug that belongs to the class of medication called NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal Antiinflammatory Drugs). It has been used primarily for short-lasting painful inflammatory conditions like sports injuries, sinusitis, and other ear-nose-throat disorders, dental surgery, bursitis (Inflammation of the fluid-filled sac in the joints), lower backache, dysmenorrhoea (painful menstruation), post-operative pain, osteoarthritis and for fever.
Ideally Diclonice is not prescribed by a doctor for a toothache. However, in the absence of painkillers such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen, naproxen etc, nimesulide can be taken to get instant relief from tooth pain. Generally, for treating toothache arising due to dental cavities and dental procedures ibuprofen along with antibiotics are recommended by dentists to reduce swelling and pain.
