Yes, Escitus causes sleepiness or drowsiness but this occurs in a few cases only. It is a known side effect of this drug.
Yes, Escitus may cause increased thirst but it occurs only in a few cases. This is because Escitus sometimes causes low levels of sodium (hyponatremia) which leads to increased thirst. This side effect is reversible and it goes away after discontinuation of this drug.
No, Escitus is not addictive. It has not been reported to cause addiction among those who are taking it.
For treatment of anxiety Escitus is usually given upto 8 weeks and for the treatment of depression, the duration of treatment may vary depending upon the severity of depression. Escitus contains escitalopram which belongs to the class of drugs known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) that works by inhibiting the reuptake (reabsorption) of a neurotransmitter (chemical messenger) serotonin which is presumed to be associated with the feeling of well-being and happiness. Low levels of serotonin in our brain cause low mood and depression. Inhibition of reuptake of serotonin by Escitus results in its increased concentration in our brain which helps in elevating the mood.
