Jectocos Lipo Oral Suspension is a brand name of folic acid which is a water-soluble form of vitamin B9. The natural form is known as folate while folic acid is the synthetic form. It is a prescription drug which is given for the treatment of folic acid deficiency. It is also given in pregnancy to prevent birth defects (neural tube defects) in the fetus.

Many food items are fortified with Folic acid. Folic acid is required for the synthesis of genetic material and red blood cells. Its deficiency can cause megaloblastic anemia. It is also essential for pregnant women before and during the pregnancy. Deficiency of Folic acid during pregnancy can result in premature delivery and babies with the neural tube defects.
