Xmalon

Xmalon (Exemestane) is an oral medication classified as an aromatase inhibitor. It is primarily used to treat hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women by reducing estrogen levels, which can fuel the growth of certain types of breast cancer.

Uses

Breast Cancer Treatment:

• Early-stage breast cancer after initial treatment with tamoxifen.
• Advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal women where tamoxifen or other therapies have failed.

Mechanism of Action
Exemestane irreversibly inhibits the aromatase enzyme, which is responsible for converting androgens to estrogens, thereby reducing estrogen levels and slowing the progression of estrogen-dependent cancer.

Dosage and Administration

• Recommended dose: 25 mg tablet taken once daily, preferably after a meal.
• Duration of treatment depends on the patient’s condition and response to therapy.

Side Effects

• Common: Hot flashes, fatigue, joint pain, nausea, and headache.

Precautions

• Not suitable for premenopausal women or during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• Regular monitoring of bone health and cholesterol levels is recommended.
• Avoid driving or operating machinery if dizziness occurs.
