Frequently asked Questions about Cortent
Question over 3 years ago
How does Cortent work?

Dr. Haleema Yezdani MBBS , General Physician
Cortent contains clobetasol which is presumed to work by promoting the induction of inhibitory proteins (lipocortins) in the body. Lipocortins prevents the release of arachidonic acid which causes synthesis and release of certain chemicals such as histamine, leukotrienes, and prostaglandins that causes inflammation. In this way Cortent prevents the skin inflammation which provides relief to the patient from rash, itching, and redness.

Can Cortent be used for ringworm?

Dr. B. K. Agrawal MBBS, MD , Cardiology, General Physician, Internal Medicine
No, Cortent alone should not be used for ringworm because it is a fungal infection of the skin caused by fungi such as Trichophyton rubrum and Epidermophyton floccosum and Cortent is not an antifungal agent and it is not effective against fungi. Hence Cortent should not be used for the treatment of ringworm. For the treatment of ringworm, you can use a combination of Cortent and antifungal drugs such as miconazole and fluconazole.
