No, Xter is not a steroid. It is an antifungal medicine which belongs to the class of drug known as triazoles.
Xter works by preventing the fungal infection to grow further. They inhibit cytochrome P450 enzyme 14- demethylase and block ergosterol synthesis. This action results in the destruction of cell membranes of the pathogen by limiting the growth of the fungus. Hence, in this way, it kills fungus and protect us from infection.
Yes, Xter can sometimes affect the liver by increasing the secretion of liver enzymes which can damage the liver cells. Rare cases of serious hepatotoxicity (liver damage), including liver failure have been reported. Hence a routine liver function test should be conducted when taking this drug for a long time.
