Maxitax Information

Maxitax is a commercial drug that is prescribed in the form of Injection. It is typically used for the treatment of Meningitis, Bacterial Infections, Skin Infections. The alternative uses of Maxitax have also been explained below.

    Maxitax contains cefotaxime which belongs to the class of drugs known as cephalosporins. It is a broad spectrum antibiotic which covers a wide range of bacteria which are generally found to be resistant to penicillin.

    No, Maxitax does not covers mrsa (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) infections. Staphylococci that are resistant to methicillin/oxacillin should be considered resistant to Maxitax.

    How does Maxitax work?

    Maxitax is a broad-spectrum antibiotic which is active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It works by preventing the cell wall synthesis in bacteria by binding to specific proteins (penicillin-binding proteins). The cell wall protects the bacteria from the environment, in the absence of this cell wall, the bacteria becomes vulnerable and dies. Maxitax is effective against a wide range of both gram negative and gram positive bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenza, Staphylococcus aureus, and Staphylococcus pneumonia.
