Flucomet inhibit the fungal cytochrome P450 enzyme lanosterol 14- demethylase and thus block ergosterol synthesis leading to membrane abnormalities in the fungus. It kills the fungus by destroying its cell membrane.

No, Usually Flucomet does not cause nephrotoxicity. But as per FDA reports patients above 65 years have exhibited acute renal failure hence elderly patients should take Flucomet only when prescribed. However, the exact mechanism of renal failure associated with this drug is not yet known.
