No, Reflexin does not cover Enterococcus faecalis. They are generally found to be resistant to Reflexin. Hence, it is not recommended to use this drug for the treatment of the infection caused by Enterococcus faecalis.
The dosage of Reflexin may vary from case to case as it depends on the type of infection and severity of the infection. You are recommended to take this drug as per your doctor's instructions. It should be taken with or without food because the presence of food does not have any effect on its absorption from the stomach. Precautions must be taken in patients with a history of penicillin allergy, colitis, and impaired kidney function.
Yes, Reflexin might be used to treat sinusitis (Inflammation of cavities situated around the nasal passages) caused by bacteria (Streptococcus pneumoniae or Haemophilus influenzae). However, because of its poor activity against these bacteria Reflexin is not recommended usually for the treatment of sinus infection (sinusitis).
Reflexin contains cefalexin which is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. It works by preventing the cell wall synthesis in bacteria by binding to specific proteins (penicillin-binding proteins). The cell wall protects the bacteria from the environment, in the absence of this cell wall, the bacteria becomes vulnerable and dies. Reflexin is effective against a wide range of both gram negative and gram positive bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Streptococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, and Klebsiella pneumoniae.
Yes, Reflexin causes nausea and vomiting in a few cases only. It is a rare side effect of this drug. For relief from nausea and vomiting, you are advised to take lime water, avoid eating spicy food even if it persists or becomes severe then discuss with your doctor.
