How does Qugyl O work?

Dr. Ajay Kumar MBBS, Internal Medicine

Qugyl O contains ofloxacin (a broad-spectrum antibiotic that belongs to the class of drugs known as fluoroquinolones) which works by inhibiting enzymes (topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase) in bacteria which prevents the DNA replication of bacteria and ornidazole (a antiprotozoal agent which is effective against parasites) it destroys the protozoal DNA that prevents the protein synthesis which is essential for the survival of the susceptible organism. In this way Qugyl O is effective against a wide range of both gram negative and gram positive bacteria and parasites such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenza, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Chlamydia trachomatis, Entamoeba histolytica and Trichomonas vaginalis.
