Toltam blocks receptors in the prostate, prostatic capsule, prostate urethra, and bladder neck. When these receptors are blocked, smooth muscle relaxation occurs in the bladder neck and prostate, decreasing the urinary outflow resistance in men.
Yes, Toltam may cause an allergic reaction causing hives, rash, and itching. It may also cause swelling of the eyes, tongue, lips, arms, ankles, throat, feet and lower legs. If you suffer from any of these reactions, please inform your doctor immediately. He may ask you to discontinue using Toltam.
