How does Emoderm work?

Emoderm contains liquid paraffin which is a laxative (stool softener) and an emollient. Oral solution of this drug penetrate the stools in our intestine and softens it. It also increases peristaltic activity through osmotic retention of fluids which helps in promoting bowel evacuation which provides relief from moderate to severe constipation. Topical cream of this drug acts as an emollient which soothes and softens the skin by forming a protective layer on the skin that retains moisture and keeps the skin moist preventing cracks and dryness. It also improves the appearance of the skin.
