Flunipar contains flunarizine which works through preventing the narrowing of blood vessels due to calcium overload caused by the excessive influx of calcium. The narrowing of blood vessels is considered as a possible cause for migraine and its prevention helps in reducing the frequency and severity of migraine attacks. Flunipar also blocks the release of a chemical messenger (histamine) due to its antihistaminic properties which are presumed to contribute in providing relief to the patient from symptoms of vestibular vertigo.
Flunipar can be taken 1-2 times in a day or as advised by your doctor. It has to be taken with food to avoid stomach upset. Precautions must be taken in patients with heart diseases, glaucoma, and epilepsy. You should strictly take this drug only on doctor advice.
Very rarely, Flunipar causes hair loss (alopecia). Animal studies have shown that flunarizine can cause loss of hair. Hence its possibility in humans cannot be denied. If you are experiencing excessive hair loss after taking this drug then you are advised to discuss it with your doctor.
Usually Flunipar is given for short-term treatment up to 2-6 months which may vary from case to case basis. You are advised to take Flunipar as long as it is recommended by your doctor. Using this medicine beyond that period might not be good for you because it can lead to unintended side effects.
