How does Quininga work?

Dr. Kuldeep Meena MBBS, MD , Cardiology, Neurology, Pediatrics, Dermatology, Pulmonology, Nephrology, General Physician, Other, Infectious Disease, Emergency Medicine, Allergy and Immunology, Internal Medicine, Multispeciality

Quininga contains quinine which is an alkaloid that belongs to the class of drugs known as antimalarials. It works by interfering in the parasite's ability to break down and digest hemoglobin. Malarial parasites need hemoglobin for growth and survival. Quininga binds with the hemoglobin and forms a complex with it which is toxic for the parasite only. This results in starvation and death of parasites due to building up of the toxic levels. For night-time leg cramps Quininga works by decreasing the excitability of motor endplates which is presumed to be responsible for causing leg cramps.
