Yes, Hepatreat is safe to use, if taken in a prescribed amount for a specified time as advised by the doctor. However, few side effects have been observed at a regular dose which occurs in a few cases only such as diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. No, Hepatreat is not a steroid. It is a hepatoprotective agent which is used in the management of hyperammonemia (high levels of ammonia in the blood) that results from liver diseases.

Hepatreat contains L-ornithine l-aspartate which is a hepatoprotective agent. It works by promoting the synthesis of glutamine in our body which is an amino acid that binds with ammonia. This binding results in the formation of a complex which is non-toxic in nature and it is easily removed from the body by kidneys in urine. Normally, liver maintains the normal levels of ammonia in our body but to due liver damage caused by any medical condition affects this function which results in high levels of ammonia in our body (hyperammonemia ). These high levels of ammonia are harmful for our body which causes complications such as hepatic encephalopathy. Thus Hepatreat helps in inactivation or detoxification and removal of these harmful excessive levels of ammonia which restores its balance in our body.

Ideally, oral Hepatreat should be taken by mouth 2 - 3 times a day or as advised by your doctor. Hepatreat can be taken with or with food as the presence of food normally does not affect its absorption from the stomach.
