Yes, Monodrox might cause a yeast infection because it antibiotic kills both bad bacteria and good bacteria as well. Good bacteria prevent the growth of yeast (fungi) in our body. The absence of these good bacteria that keeps them in check provides a favorable environment for the growth of yeast which results in yeast infection.
Monodrox contains cefalexin which is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is active against a wide variety of bacteria. It works by preventing the cell wall synthesis in bacteria by binding to specific proteins (penicillin-binding proteins). The cell wall protects the bacteria from the environment, in the absence of a cell wall, the bacteria becomes vulnerable and dies. Monodrox is effective against bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Beta-hemolytic streptococci, Moraxella catarrhalis, Staphylococci strains, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, and Klebsiella species.
Yes, Monodrox might help in acne. It is used for the treatment of acne vulgaris along with other antibiotics before treating with isotretinoin.
