Proxanit is a brand name for alprazolam. It is a controlled prescription drug that belongs to the class of medications called benzodiazepine. It is short-acting potent anxiolytic and a minor tranquilizer. It is used for the treatment of anxiety and panic disorder (sudden, unexpected attacks of extreme fear and worry about these attacks).
Proxanit can be taken with or without food. Preferably taken 2 - 4 times in a day. Extended-release tablet should be taken once daily. The dose should be gradually increased from low to high. It may cause dizziness and drowsiness which altered the thinking power of people. You shouldn't drive or operate heavy machinery while taking medicine. However, take it exactly as your doctor has recommended you to take it.
Stopping or discontinuing Proxanit on your own can cause withdrawal symptoms (seizures, difficulty in sleep, headache, nervousness, and depression). However, if you decide to stop/discontinue it, then stop it slowly, do not stop suddenly.
