Clopinate Gm is a brand name of clobetasol and it comes in the form of ointment, cream, and lotion. It belongs to the class of drug known as steroids (corticosteroids). It is a prescription drug used for the treatment of skin diseases such as corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses, scalp psoriasis, and plaque psoriasis.
Clopinate Gm contains clobetasol which is presumed to work by promoting the induction of inhibitory proteins (lipocortins) in the body. Lipocortins prevents the release of arachidonic acid which causes synthesis and release of certain chemicals such as histamine, leukotrienes, and prostaglandins that causes inflammation. In this way Clopinate Gm prevents the skin inflammation which provides relief to the patient from rash, itching, and redness.
Yes, Clopinate Gm may be used for contact dermatitis caused by poison ivy because it can provide relief from swelling, itching, and redness.
Yes, Clopinate Gm might cause dry skin in few cases only. However, the exact cause behind dry skin is unknown.
