Gen D3 is a brand name of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) and it comes in the form of a tablet, capsule, sachet, and injection. It is a prescription drug that is used in the management of diseases that results from vitamin D3 deficiency (rickets, osteoporosis, and osteomalacia) and to treat nutritional deficiency of vitamin D3 due to imbalanced diet and its deficiency which is caused by some disease states (malabsorption syndrome, Crohn's disease, and liver diseases). It is also used in the Crohn's of calcium (hypocalcemia) caused by hypoparathyroidism which is decreased levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH) from parathyroid glands.

Yes, Gen D3 can cause constipation if taken this drug more than the recommended doses. It is a common side effect of this drug. The exact cause of constipation is unknown. If you are experiencing constipation after taking this drug then try to take laxative such as Isabgol and eat less spicy highly fibrous food.

The dose of Gen D3 varies from case to case basis depending on the medical condition of the patient. Oral tablet of Gen D3 can be taken with or without food because food does not affect its absorption. You are advised to take it as per your doctor's instructions. Precautions must be taken in patients with improper kidney function and heart diseases.

No, Gen D3 does not increase blood sugar (hyperglycemia). It has not been reported by the patients who are taking this drug.
