    Frequently asked Questions about Librax

    Question over 5 years ago

    What is Librax?

Dr. Ajay Kumar MBBS, MD , General Physician

Librax is a brand name of chlordiazepoxide and it is available in the form of a tablet. It belongs to the class of drug known as benzodiazepines (sedative and hypnotic). It is a prescription drug which is mainly used in the management of anxiety disorders. Librax is also used to control agitation caused by alcohol withdrawal.

    Question almost 5 years ago

Can Librax be used for anxiety?

Dr. Saurabh Dhamdhere MBBS , Orthopedics

Yes, Librax can be used for anxiety because it contains chlordiazepoxide which belongs to the class of benzodiazepines (sedative and hypnotics) that provides relief from anxiety to the patient by increasing the activity of inhibitory neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA).

    Question almost 5 years ago

Does Librax cause low blood pressure?

Dr. Bharat MBBS , General Physician

Yes, Librax might lower blood pressure (hypotension). It is a rare side effect of this drug. If you are experiencing dizziness or lightheadedness after taking this drug which is a symptom of low blood pressure, then you are advised to lay down immediately till it subsides and drink salty water.

    Question about 5 years ago

    How to take Librax?

Dr. Kapil Sharma MBBS , General Physician

Take Librax 1-4 times in a day or as advised by your doctor. It can be taken with or without food because the presence of food does not affect the absorption of this drug from the stomach. Precautions must be taken in patients with improper liver or kidney function.

    Question over 4 years ago

    Does Librax make you sleepy?

Dr. Braj Bhushan Ojha BAMS , Gastroenterology, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Ayurveda, Sexology, Diabetology

Yes, Librax can make you sleepy because it crosses the blood-brain barrier (a membrane that prevents the drugs from entering into the brain). After entering into the brain this drug calms the brain by increasing the activity of inhibitory neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) that results in drowsiness. It is the most common side effect of this medicine. Activities such as driving and operating heavy machinery should be avoided after taking this Librax to prevent accidents and injuries as it causes drowsiness.
