Metbleo Information

Metbleo is a chemotherapeutic agent that belongs to the class of antibiotics with anti-tumor properties. It is commonly used to treat various types of cancer, including Hodgkin’s lymphoma, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, testicular cancer, and certain skin cancers. Derived from a strain of Streptomyces, Metbleo disrupts DNA synthesis, leading to cancer cell death.

Uses of Bleosted:

  1. Hodgkin’s Lymphoma: Often used as part of combination regimens like ABVD (Adriamycin, Bleomycin, Vinblastine, Dacarbazine).

  2. Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma: In selected cases as part of a multi-drug approach.

  3. Testicular Cancer: Frequently used in combination therapies like BEP (Bleomycin, Etoposide, Cisplatin).

  4. Squamous Cell Carcinoma: Effective against cancers of the head, neck, and cervix.

  5. Malignant Pleural Effusion: Used intrapleurally to prevent fluid reaccumulation.

Metbleo binds to DNA and induces strand breaks by generating free radicals. This action interferes with DNA replication and RNA synthesis, ultimately leading to cancer cell death. It is most effective during the G2 and M phases of the cell cycle.
