    What is Gutwin?

    Gutwin is a brand name of rifaximin and it comes in the form of tablet and syrup. It is a prescription drug and a broad-spectrum antibiotic which is used in the prevention of travelers’ diarrhea (TD) caused by bacteria Escherichia coli and to reduce the risk of hepatic encephalopathy (a brain disorder that causes decline in functioning of the brain due to accumulation of ammonia in which results from the liver damage) along with lactulose. It is also used in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D).

    Is Gutwin helpful in treating irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)?

    Yes, Gutwin is used in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D). It has been found very effective for IBS-D. Gutwin is given three times a day up to 14 days in patients of irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea.
