Frequently asked Questions about Poxid

Question over 4 years ago

Is Poxid safe to use?

Dr. Surender Kumar MBBS , General Physician

Yes, Poxid is safe to use, if taken in prescribed amount and duration as advised by the doctor. However, certain side effects have been associated with this drug such as ataxia (which is lack of muscle coordination during voluntary movement), drowsiness, and confusion. If you experience above-mentioned side effects after taking this medicine then inform your doctor and follow his/her instructions.

Question over 4 years ago

Does Poxid make you sleepy?

Dr. Braj Bhushan Ojha BAMS , Gastroenterology, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Ayurveda, Sexology, Diabetology

Yes, Poxid can make you sleepy because it crosses the blood-brain barrier (a membrane that prevents the drugs from entering into the brain). After entering into the brain this drug calms the brain by increasing the activity of inhibitory neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) that results in drowsiness. It is the most common side effect of this medicine. Activities such as driving and operating heavy machinery should be avoided after taking this Poxid to prevent accidents and injuries as it causes drowsiness.

Question almost 5 years ago

Can I take Poxid with alprazolam?

Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo MBBS , Internal Medicine

Yes, you can take Poxid and alprazolam only on your doctor's advice because taking these two drugs together might result in increased side effects such as difficulty concentrating, drowsiness, and dizziness.

Question about 5 years ago

Can Poxid cause withdrawal symptoms?

Dr. Gaurav MBBS , General Physician

Yes, Poxid causes withdrawal symptoms when the drug is suddenly discontinued after long-term treatment. These withdrawal symptoms can include seizures, dysphoria (unease or dissatisfaction), vomiting, sweating, uncontrollable shaking of a part of your body, stomach or muscle cramps, anxiety, or difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep.

Question almost 5 years ago

Can Poxid be used for anxiety?

Dr. Saurabh Dhamdhere MBBS , Orthopedics

Yes, Poxid can be used for anxiety because it contains chlordiazepoxide which belongs to the class of benzodiazepines (sedative and hypnotics) that provides relief from anxiety to the patient by increasing the activity of inhibitory neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA).
