Tamgress D is a brand name for tamsulosin. It belongs to a class of drugs known as alpha blockers. It is available in the form of a tablet and capsule. It is used in men for the treatment of enlarged prostate (benign prostate hyperplasia or BPH) which may comprise painful urination, difficulty in urinating (incomplete bladder emptying, hesitation, dribbling, weak stream), urgency and frequency. It is also used for the treatment of chronic prostatitis (off-label).
Yes, Tamgress D consumption may cause constipation. Constipation can be relieved by drinking a lot of water, eating lots of fiber, taking probiotics, exercising regularly or taking an over the counter laxative. Talk to your doctor for managing constipation, should you develop the same.
Tamgress D is available as a capsule and tablet to be taken by mouth in an empty stomach because food can delay the absorption of this drug and also decrease its bioavailability. Precaution must be taken in the patient with prostate cancer, sulfa allergy, and Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome.
Rarely, Tamgress D causes a persistent painful penile erection which is not related to an intercourse. This condition is known as priapism. If not treated properly, this condition can cause permanent impotence. Therefore, if you suffer from any such condition while taking Tamgress D, please inform your doctor immediately.
