Cetil contains cefuroxime which is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It works by preventing the cell wall synthesis in bacteria by binding to specific proteins (penicillin-binding proteins). The cell wall protects the bacteria from the environment, in the absence of this cell wall, the bacteria becomes vulnerable and dies. Cetil is effective against a wide range of both gram negative and gram positive bacteria such as Moraxella catarrhalis, Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus pneumoniae, and Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Yes, Cetil can affect hemoglobin, it causes decreased hemoglobin in blood but this occurs rarely. It is a known side effect of this drug. However, the exact cause behind this is unknown.

Yes, Cetil can cause nausea and vomiting, but this occurs rarely. It is a known side effect of this drug. For relief from nausea and vomiting try to take lime water, avoid eating spicy food even if it persists or becomes severe then discuss with your doctor.

No, Cetil does not cover Enterococcus faecalis. They are generally found to be resistant to Cetil. However antibiotic sensitivity test is recommended to confirm its resistance.
