Most people experience dizziness as a sensation of light-headedness or loss of balance. Dizziness is also called vertigo at times, although they are two different symptoms. Dizziness is usually associated with specific sensations that include blackout before eyes, nausea, vomiting, weakness, and excessive sweating. These episodes may be triggered by the movement of the neck. Sometimes dizziness is associated with an abnormal sound in the ears (tinnitus).

Regardless, dizziness is not a condition in itself but a symptom of an underlying disease. Common causes of dizziness include Meniere disease, ear infection, headache (vestibular migraine), mental stress, medicines (antidepressants), disorders in the blood circulation (low blood pressure), problems in the functioning of the heart (irregular heartbeat), metabolic disorders and cancer in the brain or other disorders of the central nervous system. Treatment of the cause is the key to the management of vertigo. Additionally, antihistamines and antiemetics (for vomiting) are standard medicines used in the treatment of dizziness.

Homeopathic medicines help in relieving dizziness that is not associated with a structural abnormality or damage to the structure of an organ. Homeopathy also helps in reducing the frequency and intensity of dizziness that occurs due to conditions such as inflammation in ears and anxiety. Some of the commonly used homeopathic medicines in the treatment of dizziness include argentum nitricum, gelsemium, conium maculatum, bryonia alb, pulsatilla, cocculus indicus, ambra grisea and petroleum.

A constitutional homeopathic medicine selected by a qualified homeopathic physician is highly beneficial in the treatment of dizziness or vertigo, especially due to functional causes. Homeopathic medicines also help in reducing other associated symptoms of dizziness, such as nausea, vomiting and headache. However, the scope of homeopathy is limited when dizziness arises due to any change or abnormality in the structure of an organ (such as cancer in the brain).
