Dobact is a brand name for doxycycline. It is a prescription drug that belongs to the class of medications called tetracycline. It is available in different dosage forms such as tablet, capsule, syrup, and cream. Dobact is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat bacterial as well as protozoal infection. It is used in the treatment of various type of infections such as pneumonia, respiratory tract infection, rickettsial infections, sexually transmitted infections, ophthalmic infections, anthrax including inhalational anthrax, and prophylaxis of malaria. It is also used in combination with other medications to treat acne and pimples. Sometimes Dobact is also used as an alternative treatment for selected infections when penicillin is contraindicated.
Discontinuing Dobact in between may promote resistance to bacteria which may result in a relapse of the infection. You are recommended to complete the 7 - 14 days course even after getting symptomatic relief. Incase you feel any discomfort such as breathing difficulties and skin reactions while taking this medicine please inform your doctor immediately.
No, Dobact should not be given to children under 8 years. It can cause permanent tooth discoloration in children especially under 8 years old.
