Doxcef is a brand name for cefpodoxime. It is a prescription drug that belongs to the class of medication called cephalosporins. It is a broad spectrum antibiotic, used for treating bacterial infections, such as bronchitis, gonorrhea, respiratory, ear, throat, and urinary tract infection.
Occasionally, Doxcef can cause drug-induced thrombocytopenia (blood clot formation in a vessel). However, if you experience severe thrombocytopenia after taking this medicine, please immediately seek medical help.
Discontinuing Doxcef in between may promote resistance to bacteria which may result in a relapse of the infection. You are recommended to complete the 7 - 14 days course even after getting symptomatic relief. Incase you feel any discomfort such as breathing difficulties and skin reactions while taking this medicine please inform your doctor immediately.
Rarely Doxcef can cause neurotoxicity. It is a reversible side effect of this drug, the symptoms caused due to drug-induced neurotoxicity often disappear after this drug is stopped.
