Iondan is a brand name for ondansetron. It belongs to a class of compounds known as serotonin type 3 receptor antagonists. It is available in the form of tablet and injection. It is used to prevent nausea and vomiting that is caused by anti-cancer drugs, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. It is also used to prevent post-surgical nausea and vomiting.
Iondan is available in form of tablet, syrup, and injection. It should be taken as per your doctor's instructions. Ideally, Iondan has to be taken with food to avoid stomach upset. The initial dose is usually taken half an hour before chemotherapy, 1 to 2 hours before radiation therapy and 1 hour before a surgery. Additional doses can be suggested by the doctor as per the individual requirements.
Yes, Iondan may cause drowsiness because this drug has been reported to induce sleep. Ensure you do not drive or do some high precision work. To avoid excessive drowsiness with this medicine you are encouraged to take adequate night-time sleep, keeping distractions out of the bedroom, going to sleep and getting up at consistent times, eating light at lunchtime, putting in some form of a physical activity, avoiding taking naps during the day, and avoiding alcohol at night.
Yes, Iondan can cause constipation. Some of the other side effects are a headache and dizziness. Constipation is a debilitating disorder which can be prevented by drinking a lot of water, eating more of fiber, exercising more, taking herbal laxatives, taking probiotic food, and avoiding dairy products.
Yes, Iondan can be taken with pantoprazole as there are no records of any drug interaction. Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor which is used for treating acidity. Acidity can be managed by avoiding eating acidic and spicy foods, avoiding smoking, and avoiding sleep within 3 hours of taking meals.
