Inderal F contains flunarizine which works through preventing the narrowing of blood vessels due to calcium overload caused by the excessive influx of calcium. The narrowing of blood vessels is considered as a possible cause for migraine and its prevention helps in reducing the frequency and severity of migraine attacks. Inderal F also blocks the release of a chemical messenger (histamine) due to its antihistaminic properties which are presumed to contribute in providing relief to the patient from symptoms of vestibular vertigo.
Yes, Inderal F may cause weight gain in few cases. It is presumed that weight gain occurs because of increased food intake caused by increased appetite due to a sedentary lifestyle (low physical activity). Hence you are advised to do brisk walking daily to keep yourself active and maintaining a healthy weight.
Inderal F is a brand name of flunarizine and it is available in the form of a tablet. It belongs to the class of drug known as selective calcium antagonist. It is mainly used for the preventive (prophylactic) and treatment of migraine attacks in patients who do not respond to other drugs that are primarily used to treat a migraine. It is also used in the symptomatic treatment of vestibular vertigo which is caused by a functional disorder of the vestibular system.
Very rarely, Inderal F causes hair loss (alopecia). Animal studies have shown that flunarizine can cause loss of hair. Hence its possibility in humans cannot be denied. If you are experiencing excessive hair loss after taking this drug then you are advised to discuss it with your doctor.
