What is Bonacort?

Dr. Vedprakash Verma MBBS, MD , Cardiology

Bonacort is a brand name for triamcinolone. It is a corticosteroid which is available in the form of topical preparations, injections, oral paste, and a nasal inhalation. It is used for the management of dryness, scaling, inflammation, and crusting of the skin caused by conditions like psoriasis (dry scaly patches on the body) and eczema (dry, itchy, red, and scaly rashes). It is also used for managing inflammatory conditions like certain types of arthritis, allergic reactions, gout, and skin diseases, mouth sores, bronchial asthma, and allergic rhinitis.

Question about 5 years ago

Can Bonacort be applied on the face?

Dr. Saurabh Shakya MBBS , General Physician

No, Bonacort is a topical corticosteroid so it should not be used on the face. Harmful skin effects can occur by applying Bonacort on a face like periorificial dermatitis (rash around the mouth), atrophy(degeneration of cells), and telangiectasia (tiny blood vessels causing thread-like pattern on the skin). The more potent a steroid, the more serious these adverse reactions.

Question almost 5 years ago

Is it safe to use Bonacort?

Dr. Yogesh Kumar MBBS , General Physician

Yes, it is safe to use Bonacort for as long as it has been prescribed by your doctor. Do not take less or more of it as per your own will. Do not discontinue just because you want to as it might lead to disease relapse.

Question almost 5 years ago

Is Bonacort used for the treatment of scabies?

Dr. Ramraj Meena MBBS , General Physician

Yes, Bonacort is used for the treatment of scabies. Scabies is a parasitic infection caused by the mite Sarcoptes scabiei. It is diagnosed by either finding out the mite, its ova or its excreta. This often leads to a lot of itching and a rash. Scabies can be prevented by treating everyone in the house at the same time because scabies may take several weeks to present as a manifestation. It is also important to avoid prolonged skin to skin contact. The laundry should be done in hot water and it should be dried at the hottest temperature setting so that the mite gets killed. Unwashable items should be put in a bag and the bag should be closed tightly. In due course of time, the mites will die a natural death and the bag articles can be used again. It is also critical that the bath and hand towels are not shared with each other. Lastly, it is important to comply with the treatment completely.
