Zitelmi contains telmisartan which is an antihypertensive drug that works by preventing a chemical (angiotensin II) to bind with a receptor. This causes relaxation of blood vessels, it also prevents the synthesis and release of aldosterone (a hormone whose hyperactivity results in high blood pressure). In this way Zitelmi decreases the blood pressure.
Yes, Zitelmi causes hyponatremia (low level of sodium in the blood). Treatment with telmisartan might call for a regular blood monitoring for checking sodium levels.
