Chronic hepatitis b

Unlike acute, there is no treatment available for chronic hepatitis B. People with chronic hepatitis B are at increased risk of developing cirrhosis, liver failure, or liver cancer. During this time the following types of antiviral medicines can be given to the patient -

  • peginterferon alfa-2a injection
  • antiviral tablets such as tenofovir or intecavir
